Dreaming an Old Dream

A few nights ago I had a dream I can remember clear as day.

I emerged from the muddle of some sort of plot line that most dreams begin with and found myself astride a beautiful white horse in a field of tall grass. We stood at the top of a bluff looking out over a sea of rolling hills. As the wind rustled through the long stalks, turning carpet into velvet, I smiled and said aloud, "This is it. This is the dream. This is all I've ever wanted, and its perfect."

Then I turned, and rode back in to the muddled fog that I came from. When I woke in the morning, it was fresh in my mind. It left me feeling refreshed, renewed, and reminded that the pressures of this world are not what our Father in heaven created us for.

I'll get there someday. :)

Laura the Explorer

Last week my friend Monique and I ventured onto an "abandoned" property to capture a photo for one of my upcoming magazines. After we'd nailed the location and I'd gotten the "work" done, we explored the beautiful property full of magical (and stinky) empty buildings. We definitely got in touch with our 10 year old exploring selves, and I felt giddy with my re-awakened imagination. I couldn't help but think of the lives that had been lived in those spaces, and could be lived again if a lot of time and money ever go back into that place. Every time we opened a door we were surprised by what was behind it. I love the randomness of older home layouts. I hope my future home has its fair share of strange closets and oddly shaped cupboards!

Then we topped off our adventure with a visit to some brown-eyed pups. This city girl loves her some country!

Magazine Highlights

Here are some shots from a recent magazine (February 2013). I love how the colour scheme turned out (a bit of a green & purple mixture) and I had some fun with illustration and cupcakes :D. Oh and we can't forget my very first photoshoot with Barbie! Ironically, I had to do a lot of retouching to her face. She had lipstick drips on her chin! Thank you macro lens :D (and here is the full digital version if you'd like to read it)
I did not photograph the awesome frog or the cuddly lamb. Both are properly credited in print.

The Dudneys! Family Photos

Here comes another one of my favourite families!

We got outside on saturday and caught the sunshine for some family photos on the property where the Dudney's live. When I pulled these off the camera I was reminded why I love doing this so much. The colours popped with a healthy dose of sunshine and the kids...oh those kids! I giggled my whole way through editing and will giggle again as I load them here. I am scaling back my gushy words, let's just say I feel so blessed to do this kind of thing. God is good!

(PS. I forgot to shout out to Aunt Diana who manned the stuffies! She rocked at getting the kids attention and keeping them smiling. But of course she did, she used to do work as a photographers assistant!)

Old House

I was spring cleaning my photo archives at work and found these photos I took a couple of years ago. I dont recall what I was working on, but I stopped to shoot this old run-down house on the side of the road. It was a creepy place (I think I saw a few needles) but the texture of the aged paint and crumbling shingles made for some awesome photos. Its a good reminder to me that it pays off to pull over and shoot!

Megan & Dan: Married! (Part 2)

Time to get down to business: the ceremony! It was beautiful and full of laughter, ending with a bubble-itious dance down the aisle by the brand new Mr. and Mrs. We re-gathered for the reception, full of fun and thoughtful details like little plants to take home and hand-made cake pops to take in. To end it all they danced the night away! The reception was all you can hope for: a celebration of love, close-knit family, and dear friends. Congrats again Dan & Megan!

(In case you missed it, here is Part 1)

Megan & Dan: Married! (Part 1)

On January 5th of 2013 two very special people got married. I am still blown away that they chose ME to document the day, which ultimately meant I got to spend a day working with some of my best friends and family. Not a bad deal! Megan is the little sister of Melissa, who was my dear Maid of Honour when I got married! Megan is also one of my little sisters best friends, so when you start to lay it all out its a tangled web of awesome relationships.

THEN you add Dan into the picture: this amazing guy who captured her heart. It doesn't take long for one to be assured that Dan is the perfect fit for Megan. Together they're a power team, and hot stuff to boot! Shooting them all day was a breeze!

Dan & Megan:
You two are AWESOME and hanging out with you on that incredibly special day was an honour. Choosing photos to blog was way way way too hard, so be assured that there are many more where these came from! Congrats again and again! May the Lord bless and keep you both as you launch into life as a married team. (part 2 will follow as soon as I finish editing all the ceremony and reception photos :D)
